In advanced CO₂ refrigeration systems, gas coolers and superheaters play a critical role in determining overall system efficiency, capacity control, and operational stability. These components operate under transcritical conditions, combining very high pressures with frequent load variations and strict reliability requirements.
For this project, welded plate & shell heat exchangers were supplied to Anhui Fengyuan Gelatin Co., Ltd for use as CO₂ gas coolers and superheaters in a natural refrigerant refrigeration system. The equipment is designed specifically to support high-pressure CO₂ operation while delivering stable and efficient thermal performance.
The fully welded plate & shell construction provides a high-integrity pressure boundary capable of safely handling the elevated pressures associated with CO₂ transcritical cycles. By eliminating elastomeric gaskets, the design minimizes leakage risk and ensures long-term reliability under continuous pressure and temperature cycling.
Chevron-pattern plate geometry generates intense turbulence on the CO₂ side, enhancing heat transfer performance in both gas cooling and superheating duties. This enables precise temperature control and rapid thermal response, even as operating conditions fluctuate across different load points.
Compared with conventional shell-and-tube exchangers, the welded plate & shell design offers significantly higher heat transfer efficiency in a more compact footprint, while maintaining excellent mechanical strength. As a result, these exchangers provide a reliable, energy-efficient, and pressure-resistant solution for CO₂ gas coolers and superheaters in modern natural refrigerant refrigeration systems.
