Client: Yantai XX Refrigeration Equipment Co., Ltd
Cascade refrigeration systems are widely applied in low-temperature and ultra-low-temperature applications, where efficient heat transfer between different refrigerant circuits is essential for system performance, energy efficiency, and operational stability. The intermediate heat exchanger plays a critical role in balancing capacity and minimizing losses between stages.

For this project, plate & shell heat exchangers were supplied to Yantai XX Refrigeration Equipment Co., Ltd for use in CO₂ cascade refrigeration systems. The exchangers function as the interface between CO₂ and the secondary refrigerant circuit, enabling effective thermal exchange within a compact and mechanically robust design.
The fully welded plate & shell construction provides a high-integrity pressure boundary, allowing the exchanger to safely handle the high pressures associated with CO₂ circuits while maintaining separation between refrigerant loops. The gasket-free design minimizes leakage risk and supports long-term reliability under continuous operation.
High turbulence generated by the chevron-pattern plate geometry ensures excellent heat transfer performance on both refrigerant sides, even under varying load conditions. This results in stable temperature control and improved system efficiency, supporting precise cascade operation across a wide operating range.
Compared with traditional shell-and-tube intermediate exchangers, the plate & shell design offers a significantly more compact footprint and higher thermal efficiency, enabling space-saving system layouts and reduced refrigerant charge. As a result, plate & shell heat exchangers provide a reliable, efficient, and integration-friendly solution for modern CO₂ cascade refrigeration systems.
