Plate & Shell Heat Exchangers for Oil & Gas
Evaluate crude conditioning, solvent regeneration and gas cooling around the actual fluid behaviour, thermal duty and available pressure drop.
Process challenges
Crude viscosity, wax deposition, solids and changing feed composition can govern selection as strongly as the heat duty. Gas streams introduce a different constraint: a modest mass flow can occupy a large volume. Solvent circuits also require a review of concentration, contaminants and corrosion conditions.
Typical duties and fluids
Relevant duties include crude heating before separation or transfer, export-crude cooling, lean/rich amine or TEG heat recovery, and compressor interstage cooling. These are application categories for assessment, not claims of a completed JINCHEN installation in every service.
Why consider Plate & Shell
A welded plate pack provides a compact heat-transfer surface without interplate gaskets. The shell and nozzle arrangement can be selected around the process. Suitability still depends on fouling, solids, corrosion and cleaning access; a compact geometry is not automatically appropriate for every crude or solvent.
Pressure, temperature and materials
Specify pressure on both circuits, differential pressure, start-up and shutdown conditions, and the entire temperature range. For wax-sensitive service, check minimum wall temperature as well as bulk outlet temperature. Select wetted materials against the complete fluid chemistry and the planned cleaning method; confirm grade availability for the selected construction.
Configuration and maintenance
Compare welded and openable shell construction, pass arrangement and nozzle dimensions. Review viscosity at minimum temperature and velocity at minimum flow. Where deposits are expected, establish a cleaning strategy before setting the surface area and connection layout.
Project context
JINCHEN’s published rich-oil heating case concerns saturated-steam heating in a coal chemical process. It provides relevant process-heating context, but it is not presented as an oilfield or refinery project. No oilfield-specific operating figures or savings are claimed here.
